How To Turn Your Legs Dark, Without the Sun or a Tanning Bed

So I haven't bought myself clothes in like, eons, and was running around doing groceries and errands all day yesterday, and Old Navy was having a sale. In I go, and am drawn to these very cool cargo pants.

I love the colour, they are kind of a dark khaki-grey-brown. Anyways, decide to treat myself, after they fit perfectly, and away I go.

Today, it's a little cooler, and I decide that these will be perfect! On they go, pair them with a perfect T, and voila, I'm rockin' !!! I am doing stuff around the house, cleaning and organizing and such, and about a couple of hours later I have to go pee. So up I go to the bathroom... Now before I finish, let me tell you that the past couple of hours I had been cleaning and organizing stuff in my shed and storage room, and may hands were filthy. In between this and people stopping by, I would put my hands in my pockets.

I had noticed that my hands were really filthy, but attributed it to all the stuff I was moving in the shed, etc. Fast forward a few hours later, to me pulling my pants down to relieve my little bladder, and my legs are black! And I mean black!!! And I am pretty white to begin with!!! I of course was wearing stark white undies (which were now a shade of a very dark grey), and it finally dawned on me - it was the pants!!!

So I had to pop myself in the shower and proceeded to scrub my skin clean. And let me tell you, my legs were now red from the scrubbing!!! Anyways, I washed the pants, and we will see if they will dye my legs, after they are washed and dried! Holy stain bat man, I have NEVER had that happen before? Have you? I will keep you posted as to if they are still dye-makers, or if they have been stripped of all their dying powers. I at least look a little less white, on my legs (I wonder if the dye is toxic?). I hope the washing/drying cured them, because they are really cute pants, and nice butt ones too :)

So tell me, has this ever happened to you?

that's horrible! I love Old Navy and I have never had anything of there do that. I will have to keep this in mind if I buy black pants! Ha! Glad you were able to get the black off. :)

This has never happened to me, but it did happen to a guy I know. His mother had bought him a royal blue blanket that he just adored, so much so that he wrapped himself up like a burrito and slept like a baby for several hours before going off to his job as a parking valet. That evening, after work, someone noticed that he was blue. He was convinced that inhaling car fumes in the parking garage was to blame, so he headed to the emergency room. Several specialists and tests later they still hadn't come to a conclusion, let alone the first clue. In comes the intern to administer a shot of some heavy duty antibiotics and voila, a little swipe of the alcohol pad revealed the culprit.

I know Mary, I usually love them too...not so much today! I hope this doesn't mean this is how their clothes are now!

That is funny, Rachel, makes me feel better I am not the only one :)

I can't say I have ever had pants do that but Mardi Gras beads...I had a multi-colored pair make me into a peacock neck. That did not wash off easy :)

LOL at the thought of your legs.

From one white chick to another :)

Oh this has soooo happened to me!

Back in the 70s & 80s, 501 button front Levi's were the jean to have.... and you were only cool if you bought the really dark blue ones and let them fade out naturally...and of course you had to put them on wet after the first washing so they would shrink to fit properly...

Anywho, I had on my best 501s one summer day, out horse back riding and straight to a skating competition...cute little peach colored number - sequins and flouncy skirt....when I peeled my jeans off to change into that little number...my legs were blue!!! Thank goodness my coach had some flesh colored opaque tights I could fit into!! I'm sure the judges would've wondered about the blue legs ha

lol! No, I have not had it happen to that extent, but I do love a pair of deep, dark, pitch black jeans and yes, I've had some 'tinting' after wearing a pair before washing...yup, it taught me a lesson! :> Hope your pants are dye cured, so to speak, now that they've been washed! :>

Oh my gosh Kelly. Glad you didn't buy a long sleeved matching top... or PJ's. Can you imagine waking up blue from head to toe!

Bahahaha! That's happened to me before. Both on pants I bought and a couple of shirts have done that too. I don't think my skin has ever really deen dyed, but my bras and undies have. I hate that.

Note to self...always wash clothes before wearing...

LOL - Nope. Never had that happen. Dang! Those were cute pants, too. I say wash them a couple of times in warm water to get the excess dye out... then just in cold. But then again, I'm not all that experienced with this so my opinion may not matter! Good luck, I hope you get to enjoy the pants withought turning colors in the future! :D

This is hysterical and I must admit some version of it happened to me recently. I bought a very colorful shawl and made the mistake of draping it over a white outfit to an event. As the day progressed, I developed extra color on my face, hands and neck. I was having such a good time, I thought it was minor color bleed from the shawl. I only looked at my outfit late in the day and was horrified. I had nasty streaks of dark purple/red/brown color around the shoulders and neckline and front. So embarrassing; especially as no one called my attention to the crazy colors ... I guess they were having a great time too. lol! Now you got me thinking about toxic colors. Yikes!
Have a great week,
Eliz

I remember a girl in school got sent home because they thought something was wrong because her legs and hands were turning blue. Turned out it was her new jeans ;)

This happened to me a few times before, sometimes changing my undergarments into another color. Usually, this happens with brand-new jeans which I inadvertently get wet yet still we wear. I've since learned my lesson, and now everything is well. No more blueness for me!

Well I too have learned my lesson - EVERYTHING will be washed before it is worn...

Definitely a quality control issue going on at Old Navy!
