Have you ever seen a movie that re-emphasizes the beauty of the human spirit? One that captures the pureness of life in the midst of its cruelty. The underdog that shines in the depth of the night. You know the ones, that bring you to the edge of your seat, and have you wiping your eyes and laughing often at the same time...
I had never heard of the My Name is Khan, and had no idea of what this movie was about prior to renting it. I am glad I didn’t – for I am not sure that I would have chosen to rent a movie that night, that was based on such heavy material. I am very glad I did. Sometimes you find exactly what you need. Sometimes a movie can be a reminder of the important things – not that you have forgotten them, just a reminder to hold on a little longer to that hug, or to appreciate that kiss.
My name is Khan is sort of the Muslim version of Forest Gump, pre and post 9/11. A reminder that we are all human, no matter our beliefs, that are often not as different as we might think.
If you have not seen this movie before, I definitely suggest it. I liked it, and believe very strongly that it was needed to be done. I have no immediate connection to that horrible disaster that occurred, as there is no one that I know, involved. It was a tragic event, and my heart goes out to those that lost loved ones. My heart goes out to those caught up in the chaos, as well, as a result of their heritage and/or religion. All are victims of this horrible tragedy.
I have never done a movie review before, but this one unexpectedly evoked such emotion in me, I felt I had to write about it.
What movies have you seen that really made you think or remind you of what’s important? What movies do you feel were brave portraits that needed to be told?

Since you hadn't heard anything about My Name is Khan, you might have also missed the buzz about Shah Rukh being detained several hours for questioning by authorities during his press tour in the States, to promote this very film.
