65 Barrettes and an Artistic Vision

Give a 4 year old a brush, a willing participant with hair, and an unlimited supply of barrettes and clips...
and this is what you get :

The youngest hairstylist to warrant a tip , an awesome original hairstyle, and a whole lot of smiles !!!

I totally love it when someone plays with my hair. Brushing my hair is like foreplay for my senses. It is totally my idea of heaven. Now a 4 year old brushing my hair leaves me with a couple dozen less hairs, but it's still a little piece of heaven - albeit a bit of a turbulence ridden one. She gets to hone her skilz while I get my little indulgence. Totally win-win.

When is the last time someone played with your hair?

Did your head hurt afterwards? I remember my nieces combing my hair and doing my makeup... it usually ended up being pretty funny looking, but I enjoyed it!

Too cute! My grandma used to let me set her pin curls, but her clips weren't that much fun.

That is just fantastic!!!

The twins (grandgirls) used to like to fix my hair too. Although they didn't have accessories. I guess they were 2 or so at the time. Their mother used to put gel, mouse, spray and everything else in their beautiful long curly hair...they loved having their hair done. Anyway, my hair is super short.... they always wanted to fix it for me. Not much to fix. I would sit on the floor and they would brush, rub, and style. They would squirt milk or juice from the bottle or sippy cup and rub it around in my hair as if it was gel or mouse.... funny shit! The bugs loved my head!

The last time was when I had very little and everyone treated me like a little Buddha, rubbing my head and making wishes. I use to love to do this with my Nieces :)

Ha! What a good sport you are! I love it when my daughter plays with my hair--being 12- she is always begging to give me a makeover. I am usually not so into the makeup part but the hair part I love!

Not so much as during at times with her barbaric brushing tactics, LOL!!!!

Very Cute! I'm loving the butterfly barrettes!

Aren't they cute? Yep, my head felt heavier, LOL!!!

I bet at 12 she is a lot more gentle :) The Peanut isn't into makeup yet - but she has done my nails before. Now THAT was interesting!!!
Kelly said…
Ha! I love that imagery!!!!!
Kelly said…
Ha!! Talk about being a good sport!!! Well, we have a detangler spray that the Peanut just loves. Must be something about the spraying, and wetting that they love!!!!

Oh, I remember pin curls, once or twice my mother put my hair in those - I never understood how someone could get a good nights sleep with them in...

Aren't I though ;-)

That totally made me laugh! :D

Yep, me too when I touched my head and felt it to be so scaly, and then when I looked in the mirror!!!
Sigh. Have too much testosterone in this house. Maybe when my niece gets older...

You know, my nephew likes to get dressed up and do the makeup and nailpolish and the whole deal!!!!

Not very recently, but not terribly long ago either. Girls don't seem to grow out of that until high school, so get used to it. It does get less colourful and more attempt-at-style-ish, and at some point a no-scissors rule should be established.
Kelly said…
Hmm...good to know...haven't had any scissor action yet - but kiboshing it before it even starts might be a smart move! So, are you trying to say that my 65 colourful barrette head isn't stylish?

When the little one says, "I'm just going to get something," and returns holding a shiny object, it's time to announce the rule. Thinking "Oh, safety scissors, those things can't cut hair so let them pretend," is nice, but wrong. And no, I am not saying any such thing - I find it extremely stylish, in a "the B-52s meet flower power" kind of way.

You sound as though you are speaking from experience, Legacy :) Have a few swatches of hair gone missing over the years have we? Nice description - I like it; "B-52s meet flower power" :)

My little one loves this too :) Although I think you have me beat for decorative barrettes!!!!

Yes, my head is rather glowing, isn't it?
