Mosaic Entranceway
It has taken me awhile, but I have FINALLY finished my entranceway. Been slowly finishing the house, currently working on the spare bedroom. Finishing laying the floor, and building a screen to go infront of the furnace. But almost forgot about the entranceway. That's what happens when something stays one way too long, you forget your plans for it. Here it is today :)
Here it is when I started, and this old plywood was looking very tired...
I had to think of a way to frame it, so I chose to use those trim pieces you can buy in which you lay between two different floor types. Here I have lain the metal pieces in which the trim will go into.
One of the hardest parts was figuring our what I wanted to do with it. I knew I wanted neutral colours, and I knew I wanted it to have an organic feel to it..
I started out mortaring down the outside tiles first ...
Here it is After I finished tiling it... a mere 20 hours later...
But it still needs grout.
Here it is after grouting (another 5 hours later) and putting the trim all around it as well and around the door and baseboards.
I like putting unique pieces in my mosaics. There is a clear glass coaster in the bottom right hand quadrant that actually has a beta fish etched into it :)
There are also a few lava glass pieces interspersed throughout...
An here are some closeups of some of the swirls...
I am in love with how it turned out !!!
What do you think?
